DIG THIS MAY 2023

April showers bring May flowers.......
We certainly would like to see less rain in May and more sunshine, so here's hoping that that is the case. The trees, lawns and shrubberies around the estate have benefited from the rain but unfortunately so have the weeds. We are sorry to say that some of the shrubs on the estate are now very woody, and in some cases dying off. For this reason, these shrubs are being carefully scrutinised and assessed for new planting; ease of maintenance is also being taken into consideration by the gardeners. Currently plans are being drawn up in conjunction with Priestgate Gardens for choices of any future replanting, taking into account as always, available finances.

Bamboo - good news....
We are really pleased to see Phase One of the bamboo removal completed after the grinding process was carried out just over a week ago. We couldn't help but be impressed with the work ethic of Paul and Colin from The Knotweed Company. We've had a rethink regarding the idea of planting wildflowers in the grinded areas, as this would require an excessive amount of labour. Having seen the finished landscape we believe that laying some areas to lawn could be a more practical, cost effective and elegant solution. We could then introduce some specimen trees and shrubs to give colour, midst the new lawn. And so, plans for these areas will be drawn up to be used at a later date, and if approved will be put into action as soon as practical. It is actually quite an exciting time.

Friends of The Old Meadow (FoTOM)
Thank you to all those residents who braved the rain and came to support this group on Sunday 30th April, the offers of help were very much appreciated.
