DIG THIS MARCH 2023

Wednesday 1st March 2023

Birdsong and spring is on its way..........
We are nearly out of winter and in a couple of weeks it is March 20th which is officially the first day of spring. This is the reminder of a poem "Spring Song" by Ogden Nash:

"Listen buds, it's March twenty-first,
Don't you know enough to burst?
Come on birds, unlock your throats!
Come on gardeners shed your coats!"

Jobs in the grounds and gardens
Spring is a wonderful time of year when plants and trees are coming to life and starting to grow. It is also an important time for pruning and shaping for growth in the months ahead. The new gardening team, who are already getting to grips with these jobs are Danny and Regan; there is a lot of re-defining of areas and improvements to do. It is still early days, so as you walk around and maybe pass them by, it is encouraging to give them a word or two of support, because what they are doing is of value to us and our homes.

Progressing the bamboo removal in the north garden
We have been trying to keep you up to date with this issue and the latest is that the grinding is due to happen late March to early April. We have been warned that it is a very noisy process and could go on most of the day. We will give those who may be affected as much notice as possible so they can prepare themselves with earmuffs! We would like the temporary planting to take the form of a 'wildflower meadow', an idea that is being investigated, and has been successful elsewhere.
We are also devising a long-term planting scheme to include flowering shrubs and small trees that will enhance the north garden once the bamboo is eradicated.
