DIG THIS MAY 2022

There is work to be done ......
There are plans afoot to make some improvements to areas of the grounds and gardens that need a facelift after eight years or more. Chris and Matt of Limetree (our gardening contractors) have made a start on tidying up the external borders along our riverside perimeter, which will remain a work in progress to tidy up as we go through the year. We will always have to consider the costs of projects that involve replacement of plants and the time of year when best to carry out the work. Therefore, you will see areas of borders dug over and some old plants removed ready for planting in the autumn, traditionally the best time. Pippa Willcox whom we've mentioned previously will be working with Limetree on these projects.

Bamboo control
In addition, we have talked about treating the large areas of invasive bamboo in the north garden, and some in the south, which is a major cause of concern. We plan to engage a specialist company for this work, which is going to be carried out over a period of years. But, the first stage should commence this July. There is no intention of completely removing all the bamboo, which would be difficult on some of the steeper banks. The advice is to remove areas that abut pathways - where it causes damage - and break down some of the larger areas to give other plants a chance to thrive. Removing the bamboo will result in some bare soil areas but in the short term we will be able to plant annuals until permanent re-planting can take place. We will keep you updated on progress.

FoTOM (Friends of The Old Meadow)
We are looking forward to holding sessions with the FoTOM group as the weather warms up and we will keep you informed via the notice boards and on the website: theoldmeadow.org Anyone who lives on the estate is welcome to attend.

It will soon be June when we can look forward to enjoying some of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations going on around our estate.
