DIG THIS JULY 2023

Saturday 1st July 2023

Hot, hot........ hotter than the Mediterranean?
It has been lovely to see some much-awaited sunshine, but it has been very hot,
hotter than we are used to. However, I think we are going to have to get used to
this new heat arriving on our shores. The weeds are still thriving in these
conditions and unfortunately it has been too hot for most residents to do
anything about them. I certainly haven't envied the gardeners working during
this hot spell which has make it difficult for them to get to grips with all
improvements that we want to see around the grounds.
Bamboo - a bit like weeds......
As it takes up all the goodness in the soil we can't wait for Phase Two of the
removal in the north garden which will involve the herbicide spraying in the
next couple of months. The grinding process carried out after Phase One left a
lot of bare soil and it has been an impossible, mainly because of the hot weather
to keep the area tidy, unless we can find an army of volunteers to pull up a few
weeds. (Volunteers - please see reference to FoTOM below).
Friends of The Old Meadow (FoTOM)
We are fortunate that Bee Purchase, a newish resident to TOM, has volunteered
to take the lead and invigorate this group. She is asking for support from
residents to carry out a few manageable tasks with the aim of keeping our
community tidy and looking cared for. We are in effect like a village, with
village greens, aka the gardens, trees and green areas around for us all to enjoy.
Bee has already started to promote this community spirit through the 'Friends'
WhatsApp, and if you are already on the Community WhatsApp contact her and
she will link you in to the 'Friends'. If you are new to our community and
would like to join the WhatsApp groups just let the website administrator know. Contact Us
Gerry Smith (RMC), and David Brown (co-opted as a gardening advisor to
the RMC board).
