Autumn leaves...........
Autumn has arrived and leaves are starting to fall. At this time of year, it can be difficult to keep pedestrian areas clear on a regular basis, so we must watch out for fallen leaves causing slippery paths; but we are sure our gardeners will do their very best with the time they have to spend at The Old Meadow.

Lawns areas
The lawn areas are looking very sad after the hot summer days we enjoyed (or endured) and the dry period that followed. It is always surprising how quickly grass recovers, and we are sure after a few wet days we will see it revived showing its lush green colour once again.

Bamboo
It is now very noticeable that the treated bamboo in the north garden is dying off. Unfortunately, a very small part of the lawn directly in front of one treated area has been affected adversely by the spraying, but that will be rectified. There are plans for the replanting of these areas being developed by our horticulturalist Pippa Willcox, and resident David Brown, who is currently co-opted to the Board as an advisor. We anticipate permanent planting to take place next autumn, but in the spring we will plant some temporary seasonal annuals to give some colour to the areas.

Trees in our grounds and gardens
Trees are a very important addition to our estate, not only for their ability to attract wildlife and keep the air cleaner, but for their attractive appearance. We are aware that trees need pruning and shaping to show them off to their best advantage. This is an issue we are discussing, and we plan to take advice from a specialist company this autumn. Network Rail, as promised, has pruned the large willow tree at the north end of the estate that was engulfing our three specimen trees. It is now a pleasure to see them and to know that they will now have the opportunity to thrive.
